Volunteers wanted for COSA

COSA stands for Circles for Support, Collaboration and Approachability. This project of the Dutch Probation Service focuses on the reintegration of sex offenders. The motto is: No new victims! At COSA, volunteers, professionals (such as probation officers, social workers and the police) work together to allow sex offenders to return to society under supervision. We are looking for enthusiastic and solid volunteers who want to contribute to this goal. Activities How can you, as a fellow citizen, contribute to a safer society? Do you believe in a second chance? Can you spot the person behind the killer? As a volunteer at COSA you play an important role in the reintegration of sex offenders into society. You guide one client together in a team (= circle) of three to five volunteers. By maintaining contact with this client, you prevent them from ending up in social isolation, so that a relapse can be prevented. You offer a listening ear and you undertake activities together. Another important part of your job is discussing possible signals with the professional (= circle coordinator COSA) by whom you are also supported. Before you get started you will receive thorough training and during the process you will receive additional training and coaching. Wishes/skill requirements You are open-minded, reliable and have good communication skills. You treat our clients with respect and you can discuss what strikes you in your contact with the client. You are available for approximately four hours a week for a period of at least one and a half years. Desired age: At least 18 years old Particularities We always start with a personal meeting. If there is a mutual click, we will invite you for a two-day basic training. After this training, we will make a final decision whether you will participate as a volunteer at COSA. We are looking for volunteers in the area of Steenwijk, Zwolle, Hardenberg, Deventer, Zutphen, Arnhem, Nijmegen, Ede, Harderwijk, Tiel, Doetinchem and Twente. Desired parts of the day: * Working hours in consultation. Weekly contact/activities at the start. * Time investment: about half a day per week.
