Anders Roze is a fun activity for people with intellectual disabilities who are LGBTI people. We meet every last Saturday afternoon of the month in the café of the COC in Eindhoven, also known as Pand54. A meeting place in an environment where everyone can be themselves! Anders Roze helps people with intellectual disabilities to get to know other people with the same feelings. We chat about anything and everything, have a drink and often do a fun activity. Sometimes there is an outing and with Sinterklaas and New Year's Eve we make it an extra cozy party. COC Eindhoven has a number of working groups where volunteers are active, for example, these groups organize activities aimed at people within the LGBTI+ umbrella. The working groups are led by a coordinator; who organize activities together with the volunteers. As a coordinator, you take the lead within a working group and ensure that the group can do what it stands for. Het Roze Gebaar is a group that focuses specifically on deaf and hard of hearing LGBTI+ people. Every 2 months this group has a meeting on the third Saturday of the odd months in building 54. Sign interpreters are also present at these meetings so that everyone can understand each other well. Conviviality is paramount with a nice drink and chatting with others. In the first year of secondary school, our students start working on their portfolio, they learn to use the programs on the computer and the textbook, the first steps in the Dutch language are taken and they receive an explanation about our learning system. As a volunteer, you are completely involved in the initial phase of the school period. The students are super motivated and really enjoy getting to know the Netherlands and the Dutch language. You can help in a very practical way during the lessons, so we ask you to be a real doer. Experience in education is not necessary. It is important that you can provide coaching, be patient and that you are willing to follow the teacher's instructions. This determines the teaching method. Of course you speak excellent Dutch. As a TOMaatje you contribute to the future of children with a refugee background by helping them with their schoolwork. Volunteers at Open Embassy support newcomer families in finding their way in the Dutch education system. Make an impact with this valuable volunteer work and help online or physically with primary or secondary school subjects for 1 to 2 hours per week. What are you going to do: As a TOMaatje you help a child/young person (7-18 years) from a newcomer family when education is not going well. You offer support in an accessible way with doing homework, practicing the Dutch language and other difficult school subjects. Involving parents in their children's school work also ensures that you take on the role of mentor and buddy. You agree when it suits you, the child/young person and the parents best. This is done in consultation. The guidance takes place online, physically at your or your family's home, or at a public location such as a library. Do you want to work in your own profession in Latin America for a year? WereldOuders is part of a large international organization and offers help to children, young people and families in nine countries in Latin America. We are always looking for young professionals who want to volunteer in their own field for at least a year in one of our nine project countries. Our programs are led by local staff from our partner organization NPH. For a year you will receive room and board, a small expense allowance (approx. USD 100 per month) and we will pay all your insurance. You pay for the trip yourself. We are located in Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Bolivia and Peru. Within the programs, the basic needs of the children such as shelter, nutrition and education are taken care of. De Soos is open every other week on Thursday evening from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and every other week on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Mandy is a 36 year old woman with a severe intellectual disability. Mandy loves fun, parties, music and watching TV. Mandy has a stimulus processing disorder, which means that all stimuli come to her at the same time. Mandy can therefore become overstimulated and exhibit busy behavior. Mandy really enjoys 1 on 1 guidance. She is a very sweet girl and also loves to cuddle, but sometimes does not know her own strength. We are looking for a calm volunteer who can judge when Mandy becomes overstimulated. The volunteer should then be able to return Mandy to a calmer situation. We are looking for volunteers who can help in the Toy Library on Tuesday evenings from 18:15 to 20:00 and/or on Saturday mornings from 10:15 to 13:00 during the loan period. You take in returned toys and check them or you sit at the cash register and register the toys that are taken and pay for them. You advise customers about toys. You help your colleagues with all other activities. We offer you a fun and nice team of colleagues. It is interesting for parents with young children and grandparents to come because we provide our volunteers with a free membership. English-speaking volunteers are also welcome because we speak a lot of English with our customers.
