Vacancy 21-027 Client: Hey Hallootjes, I work as a supervisor at a house at Groote Cingels location with people with serious mental disabilities who unfortunately cannot enjoy the beautiful side-by-side tandem with support that is in the shed. We cannot go cycling with the clients ourselves because we cannot leave the inmates at home alone. In addition, relatives are a bit older or live far away. Wouldn't it be nice if, in good weather, the clients could enjoy a ride on the side-by-side tandem with the wind in their hair. I therefore ask you whether you, as a bicycle volunteer, would like to join our team every now and then. This will be greatly appreciated. Just one more thing, if you are not a cycling fanatic then a walk is also okay. Volunteer(s): Do you have a good condition as a volunteer, do you know how a side-by-side tandem works or would you like to learn this and, above all, do you have an affinity with people with disabilities, then this vacancy might be something for you. You don't have to live in Vught, because we have an excellent km allowance at Cello.

Clients: Hello, I'm Marlies, 38 years old, spontaneous with a good sense of humor, with horses as my biggest hobby. I'm looking for a volunteer aged 25+ who wants to do fun things with me on Wednesday afternoons. It would be nice if it could be every Wednesday afternoon, but once every two or three weeks is also nice. What you need to know about me is that I have a mild intellectual disability, I am quickly overwhelmed and I am a direct person. My environment sometimes says that I am straight to the point. But to be honest, my spontaneity and my humor is more present. I am also up for a challenge and would like to push my limits. Conviviality is a spearhead here. What I'm looking for in a volunteer, or I prefer to call it a buddy, is that you are interested in horses and have no allergies to animals, otherwise it would be nice if you took the lead. Now I have told you a few things about me and I am very curious about you. So don't wait any longer and respond so that we can schedule an introduction. It will also be a beautiful moment for you on Wednesday afternoon. Volunteer: What we ask of you as a volunteer is affinity with the LVB target group, that you are strong in your shoes, have a sense of humor and are fun. Marlies also needs someone to take the lead. If you fit this profile and if you have a moment to spare on a Wednesday afternoon, you are the one we are looking for. See you soon!

This call comes from the guidance of Arno, a 55-year-old man with low language and comprehension. He can make things clear with short sentences. His motto is: as long as it's fun. When Arno goes on a trip, he always feels good. He is friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and makes jokes at his level. Clarity and predictability are very important to Arno. He builds up tension when he is not offered that clarity. Arno has a predictable and structured life, which does him good. Looking forward to the planned trip makes him happy and he is relaxed. There are family members and volunteers involved who sometimes go on a trip with Arno. However, the network needs to be expanded because Arno lives from trip to trip. When a bond of trust has been built up, Arno will chat with you in his own way. It is not necessary for trips to be big, he enjoys the small moments. Doing something for an hour or two is enough for Arno. Have a drink on a terrace, do some shopping, go for a walk, visit the garden centre, go for a bike ride, do some crafts together or bake something tasty. If a good bond of trust is created with the volunteer, Arno would also love to come and have a cup of coffee with you. It would be nice if the volunteer could do something with Arno twice a month. Volunteer: You have enough input that Arno can respond to, but sometimes you don't mind if there are some silences. Are you a driving force in a 'parental' way, are you warm and inviting? Can you offer safety and trust so that you are predictable? Give Arno space for his own input and read him when you notice that there is some tension. Are you also not dominant but do you include Arno in decisions that are made? Well then we are really looking for you, you will make Arno happy!

Vacancy 22-027 Make a difference together with your group of friends! Client: We are looking for 2 or 3 young volunteers (18 to 30) who want to work together on one individual client. Because what if you are young, have a mild intellectual disability and a small network? Then loneliness regularly arises. How nice it would be that these clients, often guided on an outpatient basis, could also participate in society. Do something fun together with volunteers of about the same age and get to know other people in order to expand the network. You decide the activity together, this can and may be very diverse, sports, gaming, chilling and everything in between. Even a visit from a volunteer can mean a lot to the client. The time, attention and presence will be very valuable to the client, but certainly also to the volunteer. You create beautiful moments together! Volunteer: We understand that in addition to studies, many social contacts or a busy job, there is not much room left to do volunteer work every week. By shaping this together with your fellow volunteers, the frequency is much lower, but you make a big difference in the client's life. You agree with each other who will visit the client and when or who will do something with him/her. So you will not be asked to commit on a weekly basis, but you will determine the options and frequency together with fellow volunteers, possibly via a schedule. In consultation, you ensure that there is regularity and you commit yourself to tackling loneliness. A budget for having a drink or a nice lunch with your fellow volunteers is available. I suffer from anxiety disorders, depressive moments and I have difficulty with my social environment. This makes it difficult for me to go somewhere on my own. I am a friendly person with a soft character, which sometimes makes me vulnerable. I like to color/draw with pastels or pencils and enjoy gardening, walking and watching movies. If I go somewhere, it shouldn't be in my immediate vicinity, or is it, for me, something exciting that I don't dare to go alone. For example, together with you to an appointment at the hospital. Client: Guidance calls for a young man in his early 20s with a social-emotional developmental delay and also a mild intellectual disability. He also has autism, which sometimes makes contact difficult. Due to events in the past there are attachment problems. Guidance indicates that the client has already been through too much in his short life. In view of the shortage on the labor market, there is unfortunately less room to do something together with the client from the perspective of guidance. This while he can enjoy this so much and is looking forward to learning to do things independently. He needs you in this learning. At the moment he is very 'bound' to the home and supervision. He can/is not allowed to do much outside the home without supervision, but he does need it. He has therefore clearly expressed the wish to undertake activities together with a volunteer. It would give him so much pleasure to be able to do something one-on-one now and then, away from the group, getting to know someone new and in this way experiencing what it is like to undertake activities without supervision. Guidance grants him so much more than what they can offer him now. The client is back at the group around 4:30 p.m. on working days. Once every four weeks he spends a weekend with his foster parents and the remaining weekends he is with the group. Of course, a day off can be requested in consultation. Do a job together, go for a bike ride, eat an ice cream, go to the hairdresser together, buy clothes or other fun activities. Fishing, football, gadgets or listening to music, bring it on! The 1 on 1 contact will do him very well. Volunteer: Being able to make good contact is important. In addition, someone who is calm and does not easily get carried away, an example for a young boy who is still very searching for who he is. Radiating positivity and being able to bring the other back to the here and now. The client can sometimes tell stories that are not always entirely correct, the volunteer must lend a listening ear but not make any promises or commitments about matters, which can cause unrest. It is also important that the volunteer is clear, short and open in his/her communication. Some knowledge of MID and attachment problems would be nice to be able to match the level of this client as well as possible. We can discuss the frequency together, even if you could only do it once a month. Something is always better than nothing here! In addition to contact with the client, contact with the residential group and/or personal counselor is of great importance. Especially to see how things are going, whether the volunteer encounters any problems, giving and receiving feedback and sparring about certain things. This contact will be intensive to ensure that the client can grow together. Guidance grants it so! Client: A client with a mild intellectual disability in her early 50s is looking for a nice volunteer. Guidance indicates that the client is a nice woman but finds it difficult to make social contacts. She is married but besides her husband there is no network or family with whom she can do something fun. How nice it would be to find, in addition to her husband, a buddy with whom she can sometimes do something. This would be especially during the weekend, a walk together with the dog, a drink on a terrace, shopping or other activities. Den Bosch is ideally suited for this! Expanding her social network would mean a lot to her. Dependence on her husband can also be broken in this way and her world is made a bit bigger. Volunteer: You are a patient, calm, positive but also clear woman from about 35 years old. You say what you do and do what you say and you can set boundaries. You have the space to do something with the client once during the weekend. We understand that every weekend is a lot to ask, be sure to respond when you can only do it once a month, for example. Every moment of attention and your positivity makes the difference here too. Saturday or Sunday does not matter to the client, you are very welcome. Client: A vulnerable, insecure and lonely woman in her early 40s would like a volunteer. How difficult is this when you are so insecure and difficult to make contacts. She often has the feeling that others 'want' something from her and finds it difficult to deal with this. She can name her insecurities well, but finds it difficult to discuss this with guidance. This is the reason why she does not always allow guidance. Client is super nice, attentive, very independent but oh so lonely. How nice it would be if her future volunteer really sees who she is, doesn't patronize her and can give the feeling that she doesn't want anything from her. A contact on an equal basis, doing fun things together and not being judgemental. She really enjoys watching a movie together, going into town, going to a cinema, cycling, walking, carnival, being creative, swimming, football, fitness, etc. Well that's quite a bit, there must be something there whatever appeals to you as a volunteer. The client lives within a home where guidance is extremely involved and volunteers are greatly appreciated. They will also provide you with all the information you need to make a difference in this client's life. Ps, I Anja volunteer work coordinator went to drink coffee with the client. Her words have been used to write this vacancy. Volunteer: You are a patient and reliable person. You don't judge, see the positive qualities of the client and let her grow. Positive attention, understanding each other and coming up with fun activities together will make a world of difference. Now tell yourself, nobody should be lonely! Johairo is a man in his mid-40s with moderate intellectual disability and functions at a developmental age of 4–5 years. His social-emotional age is estimated to be between 1.5 and 3 years. He is cheerful and active and needs the support of others to feel safe and find direction. It is important to approach him in a specific way: treat him as an equal and take on an advisory role, which increases his acceptance. Since Johairo quickly experiences rejection, it is useful to offer alternatives. Guidance can certainly give advice in this. Johairo lives independently in an apartment, has many contacts within the group and needs unconditional guidance. He likes various activities, from being active in sports to socializing and doing valuable things. A volunteer is wanted for evenings (not on Mondays and Tuesdays) and possibly during the weekend. Johairo himself is always cheerful, likes to socialize and is enthusiastic about joint activities. Because of his sensitivity to rejection, we look for a predictable rhythm to build a strong relationship. Johairo can experience all kinds of adventures with you, such as karting, football, mountain biking or just sitting on a terrace. Sometimes he is a bit too enthusiastic and could use some help, but in general he can do a lot himself. Compliments make him happy and he likes to help. It would be really nice to have someone Johairo do fun things with once a week or month. That's why we're looking for someone who is active, friendly and clear. I am Jos, a friendly and pleasant man of 50 years. I work in Waalwijk, where I pick orders, but to be honest my world could use a little more liveliness. Sometimes I feel quite lonely because I have a small network and sometimes find it difficult to maintain contacts. Family often contacts themselves, but making friends is a challenge for me. That's why I'm looking for you, my potential new buddy! If you can take the initiative, you would help me a lot. I enjoy my weekly ambulatory residential support, but I would like to do more and experience new adventures. However, on my own I find that quite difficult. So, if you think it would be fun to go out together, chat during a walk, work in the garden together, or just grab a drink, I think we could have a great time. I love a good conversation, a laugh every now and then and good food and drink. Football, with PSV as my favourite, is also something I enjoy.
