I work at Avedan as a FIX Brigade Almelo coordinator. We work with various partners based on the concept of the FIX Brigade Netherlands in Almelo. The aim is to help residents of rental properties in Almelo with advice and small energy-saving measures so that energy costs can be reduced. We work in small teams, basically on weekdays. Occasionally once on a Saturday.

Will you help this gentleman who had to leave his familiar place of residence due to health problems and has recently moved to Almelo? The gentleman really enjoys having people around him. He is looking for a cycling buddy who wants to get to know Almelo better by bike (the gentleman rides a tricycle and is still working on building up his fitness), eat a fish at the market or have a cup of coffee somewhere, so that the gentleman can also go out on his own more easily in the future. Maybe you know of some nice places in Almelo where you can surprise the gentleman.
For a friendly couple we are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who would like to do odd jobs now and then. For example, repairing a screen door or attaching Venetian blinds. Due to health problems of both, the gentleman and lady are limited in what they can do and an occasional helping hand would be very nice.
The lady is looking for someone who wants to do the shopping for her. She lives in a small apartment in the centre of Almelo. She has difficulty walking and therefore shopping takes a lot of effort. She now walks to the Plus with her bike, after shopping she puts the groceries in her bike bags and walks back like that… She is often alone. The lady does not have to go to the supermarket (preferably Plus). The lady makes a shopping list and has cash.
A gentleman of 90+ would like to have a chat with (man or woman, it doesn't matter to the gentleman) who regularly visits the gentleman to have a chat. The gentleman has broad interests, including domestic and foreign politics, national and local news. He reads the Tubantia every day. He solves puzzles, takes care of the household. The gentleman used to have a vegetable garden, was always active. He still tries to do the latter as much as possible, but then indoors, for example by training on the exercise bike every day
We are looking for a volunteer who is willing to help an elderly gentleman with grocery shopping. The gentleman is elderly and has some difficulty doing the grocery shopping himself. The gentleman would like this to happen weekly.
For a cheerful and humorous lady we are looking for a friendly volunteer who wants to do fun things together with her. The lady has loved shopping all her life, and although she doesn't always buy something, she really brightens up when she looks around in the shops. Unfortunately, due to her deteriorating eyesight, it has become difficult for her to go into town by herself in recent years. But with a little help, she can fully enjoy browsing in the shops again! The lady lives close to the city and would love to spend an afternoon together for a fun shopping adventure. She also enjoys a quiet cup of coffee or enjoying nature in the park. Every year, the people of the Senior Advisory Team help a large group of elderly people with their tax returns. For many elderly people, filing tax returns is very complicated or stressful. By supporting them in this, we increase their enjoyment of life and ensure that these people can continue to live independently for longer and happier. It is nice if you have an administrative background and especially if you have experience with filing tax returns for others. If you have any questions, let me know, I'll be happy to answer them.
The #Meedoen project brings asylum seekers and voluntary work together. Do you want to participate as a supporter by informing and enthusing azc residents at the COA location during the weekly registration moment on Monday afternoon (from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.? And/or accompany you to the volunteer activities and maintain contact before and after the activity? Then we'd love to hear from you. What is #Join? Early involvement of asylum seekers in voluntary work helps to practice the language and build up a social network and a future in the Netherlands. This project allows them to do voluntary work and activities outside the azc. For them, this means distraction from an often long waiting time, meaningful daytime activities, getting to know our society, the Dutch language and great contacts.
For the #Participate project we are looking for language buddies for residents of the Almelo asylum seekers' center. To speak Dutch, do homework together, go to the market or take a walk. You can agree together how often you will meet and for how long. You will work together for a few hours a week to practice the Dutch language in a practical way. This can be at home, in the library, but also at the market or during a walk. The interpretation is entirely up to you. This not only improves Dutch, but also increases the self-reliance of the residents.
For a mother who I support from the Young Mother Work, I am looking for a helping hand. She gave birth to a daughter in December and has a son of 1.5 years. She is on her own and has no network in Almelo that she can fall back on in this case. She would like it if someone would help her with the groceries, but also support her with transportation to an appointment such as the consultation bureau when necessary. Thanks in advance! You will get to know different cultures and work with students with different educational backgrounds. No day is the same and that makes working at an AZC versatile and challenging. At the Gravenruiters, the care of the horses is part of the day. In the morning and in the evening the horses are provided with feed and a clean stable. In good weather, the horses are taken out in the morning by the feed service and put back in the stable by evening. We are looking for volunteers who have an affinity with horses and who enjoy doing this work during the weekend. You can indicate yourself how often you are available. The feed service rotates on average once a month to once every six weeks, especially at weekends. But we also need feeders during the construction industry holidays and during the Christmas holidays!
