Join us during the Night of the Refugee

NLvoorelkaar

Can you imagine it? That you have to leave everything behind from one day to the next? And flee headlong with your family, your neighbors or sometimes all alone to a destination that is still unknown? 💔 Never before have so many people fled war, conflict and oppression. By participating in the Night of the Refugee, you commit yourself to them: you draw attention to their stories in a positive way and have your kilometers sponsored. The more money you raise, the more emergency aid we can provide together!! 💪🏼 During the 2023 edition with no fewer than 5,500 participants, more than 1.3 million euros was raised! A fantastic amount! This allowed the Refugee Foundation to give Sudanese refugees, among others, access to clean (drinking) water and sanitary facilities. They also provided emergency aid packages for people who had to flee the earthquake in Turkey and Syria and supported them with, among other things, nutrition in Ethiopia and Burkina Faso. Are you also participating this year? Register individually, with your family, friends, sports club, company or school. Click on 'I'm participating' so that we can explain to you how you can participate!

Who oh who will help me with my garden?!!!

Amal Gabriele

Dear Volunteer! I really need your help with my little garden that is my greatest joy. I am a chronic pain patient and also have pain in my legs. Over time, I have also become socially isolated due to my disability. Unfortunately, I can no longer maintain my garden myself with small jobs. Until recently I had a very sweet and enterprising assistant. She has now moved and also does other work and can no longer help me. I would now like to find someone who can do the heavy jobs for me and would be happy if you could come and fix things up sometime. Due to the wet winter and spring, all my tiles are covered with moss that really needs to be removed. As long as the green deposits are still there, I cannot enter my garden because it is very slippery and I will slip. It also concerns e.g. for pruning hedges, clearing leaves or dead blossoms from a chestnut and weeding. Maybe also help clean the garden furniture so I can use it again when the weather finally becomes more pleasant. I have a garden at the back and a small garden at the front where the hedge needs to be pruned, leaves cleared and weeds need to be pulled. No experience with gardening is no problem, if you have a little love for plants and nature I'm happy!! Garden tools are available. It would be nice if you could contact me to let me know if there is anything you can do for me. Of course, I am always ready with a cup of coffee or tea and something tasty.

Pleasant man 40+ wants to do something together

Roads Maatjesproject

We are looking for a buddy (m) for a man over forty from Duivendrecht. The man has previously been linked to a buddy. He liked that. He can function well in everyday life, but he should not experience too much pressure from the environment. Working is therefore not an option. He is occasionally active as a volunteer and he occasionally sees and speaks to his mother and brother and a friend, who lives near him. Unfortunately, he has no other social environment, while he enjoys fun and entrepreneurship. “Any distraction is welcome,” he says. And that's why he wants a buddy with whom he can do something. To varying degrees he experiences a compulsive disorder, which means that he occasionally has an urge to perform a certain action. For example, he wants to stop for a moment during a walk instead of continuing to walk. If he is left there, the stress of the moment decreases and then he can continue walking as usual. He hopes for a buddy between thirty and sixty years old. He would like to do something together with a buddy. For example, take a walk, cycle a bit, go to a museum, play tennis, badminton or squash, have a nice coffee or something to eat somewhere. He enjoys studying history, especially the Second World War. And he enjoys watching documentaries about these topics on National Geographic. It would be nice if his buddy is also interested in these topics and if his buddy also likes animals, but that is not a requirement. He prefers to meet on Tuesday or Friday afternoon. Are you interested in becoming his buddy? Read below how that works. As a volunteer with the Roads Buddy project, we pair you with a regular participant: your buddy. We connect the participant and the volunteer based on, among other things, common interests. The function of this buddy contact is to break through or prevent social isolation for a participant with a psychological vulnerability by going out together. As a volunteer you provide distraction and a bit of fun. It is important that you are prepared to meet with your buddy once every fortnight for one year (longer is possible). Furthermore, you are prepared to enter into the encounter 'openly', without wanting to change the other person. That sometimes requires adaptability. Working hours: During the day or in the evening, during the week or at the weekend: all possible. If you become each other's buddy, you will meet once every two weeks for a period of one year. When and where you meet each other, you always decide in mutual consultation with your buddy. Intake procedure: Contact person Roads Maatjesproject: Jorise (Mon, Tue, Thu). Please feel free to contact us for an introductory meeting. If you definitively register as a volunteer, an interview will follow with a participant. After this conversation, you can indicate the next day whether you want to become a buddy couple. Yes = start contact. No = new conversation with another buddy.

Buddy for mothers with young children!

Home Start Amsterdam

Many families with young children (under 7 years old) could use some support now and then. Sometimes family or friends can provide support and occasionally lend a hand. If they are not available or live too far away, it is nice if someone else is willing to provide practical help or emotional support. Like a kind of friend of the family! Do you have a positive outlook on life, do you have two hours of free time every week and do you enjoy maintaining contact with a family with young children? Then you can do a lot for such a family! Home-Start offers advance training to new volunteers. If you have any questions, you can always contact your coordinator. We also organize meetings for our volunteers, where experiences are exchanged and expertise is increased. Twice a year there is a joint outing or dinner for the volunteers. Send a message for more information.

Activities for children and young people

Scouting Diemen

Scouting Diemen is looking for young people from about 20 years old who like to interact with children. As a game branch supervisor, you organize an evening for children every week together with other young people. There are different age groups. We skip the holidays. We do go on summer camp for a week during the summer holidays. We come up with the craziest activities together, and the supervision regularly does fun things without the children. And actually it can't be crazy enough as long as it's fun, creative, sporty or just crazy. Do you like this .... and you really don't need to have any scouting experience. Come and visit us for a nice evening. Because maybe we just click!

Ria is looking for help with cow care

Diemen voor Elkaar (Welzijn Diemen)

For Ria (62 years old), living in Diemen Noord, with 15 dairy cows and some young cattle, we are again looking for several people who can support her for a certain period with the work on the farm. Think of the care of her cows and some assistance. The care for the cows and young cattle continues 7 days a week, we hope that several people will respond (Dutch speaking) who are willing to help one or more half days a week. The times are from 5:30 am to 8:30 am or in the afternoon from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm but if you are only available at other times and would like to help, please let us know. Then you can discuss with Ria. So if you love animals/cows and would like to get to know farm life, we would love to receive a message from you!! And the great thing is, you can really help her a lot and at the same time you get a lot of exercise, a real workout.
