Readers Lexmond and Ameide

Do you want to contribute to the language development of young children in Lexmond or Ameide? The Lek & IJssel Library is looking for volunteer readers for the VoorleesExpress. THE READING EXPRESS Within the VoorleesExpress, children, parents and volunteers find each other over a beautiful book. This not only results in special encounters, but is above all an incentive to playfully increase the language skills of children and their parents. For twenty weeks, a permanent (volunteer) reader visits families with children (2 to 8 years old) to introduce the reading ritual. In an accessible way, the reader offers parents tools to take over (reading) themselves and to give books a permanent place in daily life. WHAT DO YOU DO AS A READER? As a reader, you visit a family in the neighborhood for twenty weeks. You do this once a week at a fixed time of day. The parents have volunteered (via education or daycare) and are motivated, but have difficulty stimulating their children in language development. You will read to the child/children, but also look more broadly at how children are stimulated more in language at home, for example in the form of (language) games. In doing so, you are a coach for the parents, and you strive for them to continue to stimulate their children more in language development. Together you look for the possibilities and opportunities in this specific family. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO OFFER? • You have an affinity with children, language, books and cultures. • You are open to new encounters. • You are eager to learn, independent and reliable. • You are flexibly available. • You are prepared to commit yourself for a period of at least six months. • You are prepared to develop yourself and participate in an in-depth workshop or training. WHAT DO YOU GET IN RETURN Volunteer work at the VoorleesExpress offers you the opportunity to develop yourself further. This way you learn a lot about working together, responsibility and setting boundaries. It is also a great way to get to know new people from different backgrounds. As a reader you can gain experience with people from all kinds of cultures. You can expect guidance from the organization, you follow a starter training and you can participate in professional development and various other activities.
