Would you like to help non-Dutch speakers improve their speaking skills once a week in contact with Dutch-speaking participants? Then this activity might be something for you… You participate in a language activity (in Heemskerk or Beverwijk) in which Dutch is spoken for an hour and a half by means of a theme. At various tables, 1 Dutch-speaking and a maximum of 3 non-Dutch-speaking participants talk about a theme. There is material available on site that you can use. The activity is once a week on a fixed part of the day. You enjoy supporting people in their final phase of life, you have a warm heart and want to ‘be there’ for someone else. A hospice has been started in Meerstate since the beginning of this year. The still small hospice consists of five beds, in a separate wing of the department, which are reserved for people who need terminal care; these are people who are expected to die within 3 months. As a volunteer, you can attune yourself well to the emotions and needs of our guests and their family members, so that they feel at ease. You offer a listening ear and ensure relaxation and conviviality. You work together with the nurse, who is ultimately responsible for the care. The support that a volunteer offers is a supplement to the care that relatives and care workers provide. What will you do? As a volunteer in the hospice, you offer support for the well-being of the client. You get satisfaction from making a difference for people in the final phase of life. The shifts are from 16:00 to 21:00. You will first work five times during the day, so that a good decision can be made on both sides as to whether volunteering at the PU suits you. The first group starts at 6:30 PM. In the hall we play a simple game, we build towers of blocks or throw a ball over. Each week is a different interpretation. The second group of athletes arrives at 7:15 p.m. This group of athletes is more agile and enjoys playing badminton, table tennis, football or an agility circuit. When the weather is nice, we sometimes go outside to play jeu de boules or take a nice walk. The content of the program is free, so if you want, you can put your creativity into it. Every 14 days you can help with sailing for people with a disability, such as lifting hoist operation, assistance with getting in and out, sailing along on the support boat or sailing along yourself and/or sailing along as a sailing instructor.
