We are looking for a listening ear!

Are you really looking for a listening ear? Of course! Because you can never have enough listening ears! And in addition to a listening ear, it would also be nice if you live in the Geleen area and have quite a bit of patience. We are Lianne, Renate, Ilona and Stein and we are looking for someone who can go with us to our appointments at the hospital, the doctor or the dentist. Now you may be thinking, this is quite a strange question. But if you know us, you understand that we really need your help. And patience? Yes... as you may know, consultation hours can sometimes run late and we may end up in the waiting room a little longer than planned... But why do we need help? Because we can no longer go to a doctor, hospital or dentist alone. We all have some form of acquired brain injury. We no longer live at home but in a residential care center in Geleen. Unfortunately, our supervisors cannot always accompany us. That is why we are looking for someone who is flexible, has a driver's license and wants to assist us with the visits. It is quite important, because we also ask you to feed back the information from the doctor or GP to our supervisors. So that they are also informed. So do you live in Geleen and do you have a few hours a week to help us? We promise to let you know in time if we have to go somewhere. So you don't have to be next to the phone 24 hours a day and always be available. Would you like to know more about what exactly we expect from you? Please feel free to contact us without obligation. This concerns volunteer work. For some it can be a step towards working with people who sometimes need help. At SGL we stand for equality. Everyone is equal in value. They may then call you a volunteer*. But to us you are just Eva, Fatima, Iwona or Bram and we are just Maricelle, Isabelle and Ivo 😉. *As a volunteer at SGL you are entitled to various schemes. You can use our reimbursement scheme. You will find yourself in a nice working environment and we have an attention scheme. People with brain damage You may not immediately be able to imagine people with brain injuries. We understand that. They are people like you and me. It can happen to anyone. An accident or illness, such as a stroke, can cause damage to your brain. We call this acquired brain injury (NAH). The consequences of acquired brain damage are often serious, such as (partial) paralysis, a change in character, quickly becoming overstimulated, poor memory, no longer being able to speak (properly) and much more. This has a major impact, not only on the people it happens to, but also on their loved ones. Some people can no longer work or even live at home. SGL offers specialist care and support at home, in activity centers and residential care centers and various services to further help clients with NAH and their loved ones. As a volunteer you are part of the team and therefore indispensable within SGL. Do you want to mean something to others? Do you see opportunities somewhere where we can use your qualities? Which (former) nurse makes Edwin happy?

Weekly · 2 to 4 hours
Sgl

Do you have 2 hours free on Thursday afternoon and do you like shopping? Edwin (51) is looking for someone who would like to go shopping with him in Bunde. I'm Edwin, social, cheerful and I like to have a chat! I like structure and I am happy to tell you how you can help me. I know exactly what I want and what I need. In recent years, an older couple has helped me with my weekly shopping. Unfortunately, they are now old and are no longer able to do this. That's why I'm looking for someone who can help me get my groceries from January 1, 2024. I will then come along with you, because I know exactly what I need. Why can't I do it myself? Well, I'm in an electric wheelchair (which I can operate myself, by the way), but I'm on a ventilator. That can sometimes give people the impression that I need a lot of help, I understand that, but if it doesn't scare you then we are a good match! The shopping center is within walking distance (1 km), so that will be fine if you walk with me. I know a lot about music, traveling and I often watch movies. So if you are also an enthusiast, we already have that in common. So nice! Oh yes, we will ask you something... because I need ventilation, we are offering you a ventilation course. If you already have one, that's of course great. Finally, if you are interested, you will be called a volunteer*. But I'm just Edwin and your name is probably also Anne, Fatima, Henk or Jasper.

Are you the first to stop for an old lady with a walker to let her cross the zebra crossing? Do you stop when someone breaks down along the road? Do you not turn your hand if you have to carry a bag of cement? We are looking for a (top) driver. Someone who doesn't mind driving around the block, helping someone get in and having a chat. Someone who enjoys driving a bigger vehicle and doesn't look down on anyone. Someone who has all the time and is ready for others! Are you the powerhouse we are looking for? And do you like to ride with a nice group of people instead of alone? Then read on! We are Jack, Marieke, Sonja, Cindy and Melvin. We all have acquired brain injury (NAH). We are people who like to do something and that is why we go to the activity center in Maastricht several times a week. We do all kinds of activities here. What we are no longer very good at is driving. That's why we ask you if you can help us. On Mondays and/or Fridays we are looking for someone who can take us to the activity center in the morning and pick us up again at the end of the afternoon. The rides take about 1.5 hours (because of course we are picked up at home and don't sit on the bus for 1, 2, 3 hours). Do you live in the Maastricht area? Do you have a few hours a week? And would you like to drive us up and down from our home address to the activity center on Mondays and/or Fridays? Please contact us! We will of course provide a bus. This concerns volunteer work. Driving license B is sufficient. We ensure that you receive good instruction to carry out your volunteer work safely. For some, it can be a step into working with people who need help. At SGL we stand for equality. Everyone is equal in value. They may then call you a volunteer*. But to us you are just Eva, Fatima, Iwona or Bram and we are just Ans, Ria, Petra, Roel and Theo 😉. *As a volunteer at SGL you are entitled to various schemes.
