Become a mentor and stand up for your client
As a mentor you stand up for the care interests of someone with an illness or disability. You support your client in making decisions in care and welfare. For example, just like Renske, who is Ilse's mentor. Ilse has an intellectual disability and finds it difficult to make her own decisions regarding care and welfare. As a mentor, Renske is Ilse's legal representative and confidant. She helps her make choices such as whether or not to vaccinate or operate. Renske also ensures that agreements made are fulfilled through consultation with Ilse's care providers. She visits her regularly and then they take a walk or play a game. For Ilse, mentorship means maintaining self-direction. Renske finds the mentorship an enrichment of her life. Renske is one of the 370 voluntary mentors of Stichting Mentorschap Noordwest en Midden. Our Foundation offers mentorship to adults with an intellectual or psychiatric disability, dementia or acquired brain injury. The Foundation trains and guides you in your role as a mentor. Besides Ilse, there are many more people who are looking for a mentor, so become a mentor too! What do you get as a mentor? • challenging voluntary work with content and personal contact • work with a large personal contribution, which you can organize flexibly • training and guidance • a monthly expense allowance Are you the person who: • can empathize well with others • is communicative and dares to make decisions • has been trained at least at MBO-4 level • is available for at least 4 hours per month Please contact coordinator Monique Kuijpers for further information.
