TOM training courses have started in Rotterdam (Home Carefree Mobile). TOM helps people over 65 improve their muscle strength and balance to reduce the risk of falls. This is important for many elderly people, because falling is one of the biggest health risks for people over 65. For this program we are looking for buddies who can support the implementation and provide personal attention to participants. WHAT IS TOM? TOM is a 14-week program that focuses on exercise, nutrition and social contacts. TOM's target group are elderly people (65+) living independently at home with an increased risk of falling and living in South Rotterdam. The participants work in a group with a physiotherapist twice a week on exercises to improve muscle strength, balance and coordination. They also receive information and tips on how to stand firmer on their legs to prevent a fall. They receive personal nutritional advice twice on the basis of a completed food diary. In addition, the dietitian provides information about healthy eating during 6 lunches with the group. Tasks At all general meetings (information, starting and final meeting): • provide coffee and tea; • welcome the elderly; • catch up, make contact with the elderly. DUO for a JOB is a Rotterdam foundation that connects young people with a migration background (mentees) to volunteer 50-plussers (mentors). Together they work together for six months (approximately 2 hours per week) as DUO to actively take steps towards a job, internship or training for the young person. With this intergenerational and intercultural mentoring program, DUO for a JOB wants to: 1) reduce inequality in access to the labor market, 2) better appreciate and use the knowledge and experience of 50-plussers, and 3) bring people into contact who would not normally meet each other in daily life. Thanks to the customized guidance provided by the mentors and the foundation, the mentees gain more self-confidence, become more independent and know better which tools they can use in their search for work or training. As a result, 7 out of 10 mentees find a sustainable job, training or internship that suits them. Over the years, the concept has been cherished, rejected and reclaimed and embraced by the performance culture, as a status to be proud of. Costumes, designer looks, personal objects, photos, videos and a musical surround sound experience guide you through an immersive exhibition design by Studio Harm Rensink. Netwerk Nieuw Rotterdam is a youth organization for young people aged 16-27. In our Clubhouse on Slingeplein, we offer them a place where they can make friends, develop themselves and from where they can commit themselves to vulnerable Rotterdam target groups. In this way, we contribute to the healthy personal development of young people and, among other things, combat loneliness and polarization. We are looking for volunteers who enjoy being present at the evening activities with our youth workers. This involves helping out and ensuring a safe working environment.
