John for everyone
How did it all start?
Jan, 37 years old, living in Cromvoirt and completely unfamiliar with volunteering before Vughtvoorelkaar found six matches via this website. "It works so well that I now have to disappoint people," says Jan. "I work full-time, with great pleasure. But I saw that many problems arise in society due to the cutbacks. Then you have to take responsibility, I think. This website was the trigger for me to really take action and do something I came into contact with 3 individuals and 3 organizations very easily. It works so well that I now sometimes have to disappoint people because I am 'full'.
The cliche is true...
It's funny to find out that the cliche of volunteering is true. You really get a good feeling when you can do something for someone else. People are always happy with you, doing your best is good enough.
DIY is my hobby: win, so win!
I have helped 3 people with practical jobs. Make a lamp, hang a painting or fix something in the bathroom. I consider odd jobs to be one of my hobbies and people can move on: win win. In addition, I help with the animal shelter at the Vlasborgh, at Teresia I serve lunch on Sunday afternoon and at the Sint Janshof (Vlijmen) I help in the restaurant or at game evenings. So quite wide. I like the variety and the new people you meet. Being useful, hearing beautiful stories, enjoying a cup of coffee… isn't that much more fun than spending another evening on the couch? And yes of course there are sometimes things that don't seem to fit. In connection with work or my interests, qualities or available time. But so far I have found a very good match six times. The website makes it very easy for you so I would encourage everyone to discover if there is something for you!".
Zoë about her internship
Zoe about her internship at NLVOORELKAAR! WHO AM I? Hi! My name is Zoë and I am 19 years old. I am currently following the marketing and communications specialist course. During my training, I did an internship for 6 months in the marketing department at Nlvoorelkaar. My goals I had several goals for myself that I wanted to learn, achieve or experience, but what were they? I have dyslexia and this was a big topic in which I wanted to develop myself, but also what work life is like, where my strengths lie and finding out if this is the work area for me. Where you have strengths, you also have fewer “pitfalls”. For me this was a lot of planning ahead, my dyslexia ;) and learning to let go of factors that were less relevant to me. I can say with certainty that these are points in which I have grown a lot thanks to my internship supervisor! I first check my spelling and/or grammar before I send my work and I plan my assignments well in advance before I start. I have also learned to indicate my problem in time and then let it go. “My hard work came to life!” work life For me, the “work life” part was not a difficult task. I also worked a lot of hours for my internship, so I didn't have any trouble getting into the rhythm. In fact, I was in a great rhythm from the start! I have to admit that the team also played a big factor in this. I have been welcomed with open arms. Despite the nice team and working together in the office, I sometimes found working from home nice. Nice and quiet and able to continue working. This is something that is also possible, but in consultation with your internship supervisor. My own project I discovered that I really enjoy the marketing life, but how did I find this out? I was able to organize a project myself, namely the photo shoot for Zorgzaam010. I was able to learn how to plan, make socials, contact with volunteers and companies, for example, how to put this out on a website and organize it. I literally got to see my hard work come to life! Of course, this is just a small part of the marketing life and there is so much more to discover. My conclusion I can say with certainty that I have grown on a personal level, but also on a work level. I was able to learn and discover a lot, which is why I really enjoyed my time at Nlvoorelkaar. If I could, I would do it again! "let yourself grow!"
