Zehra and Anne

Zehra and Anne "There I was, looking for half an hour between the children's books in the library. What would she like? What in God's name does a 4-year-old read? Would she like animals? I really didn't know and finally decided to I finally burst out with an overflowing bag, ready to begin my first reading session with Zehra. As soon as I entered I felt completely at home. Crawling with my socks on the purple velvet-covered sofa, a Turkish tea and a cheerful know-it-all in a princess dress who couldn't sit still for a minute. That was the common thread of all reading hours, I think. Zehra was an energetic jump-in-the-field who was too happy for me to come. Before I had taken off my coat, a new bag had to be shown or I was pulled into the doll's corner to play. Zehra was an energetic jump-in-the-field who liked me too much But of course I came to read. Zehra had a lot of trouble with the Dutch language. She had just started primary school and could hardly understand her classmates and Miss. She also couldn't make herself understood in Dutch, which was very annoying for her. I came to read to her for an hour every week, to help her a little. Last week I was able to give Zehra her diploma and she was so proud! And above all: how proud I was! It's crazy to look back on these 20 weeks and think how fast it actually went. At first, "yes" and "no" were the only words she said to me. It was almost impossible to make sentences, and she didn't know how to tell me things.. Now she's blowing my mind about what she did at school that day and explaining exactly why I'm the big sister and that I have to feed the dolls on time. Well .. now it's up to her mother to listen to this waterfall of speech!" Share these stories and inspire others to help too! Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Whatsapp Forward
