Rianne for birds

Rianne for birds Rianne for birds Our bird sanctuary has been around since 1963, when it was run by a married couple. However, they got older and older, at a certain point the number of animals was too great for what they could handle. Then in 2012 it was taken over by our current chairman and the organization has completely changed. Everything is completely professionalized, totally different from how it used to be. However, the love for animals has always remained. Now that the birding season has arrived, these are busy times with us. Young birds often fall from their nests and are in danger. Then they come to us. These birds need to be fed every 15 minutes. That is why we need volunteers who continuously take care of the animals. The great thing is that everyone is 100% accepted. We now employ 21 people a week. Our volunteers are between 17 and 70 years old, and all come from completely different backgrounds. We have people with a mild disability, people from the probation service, students work there, you name it. The great thing is that everyone is 100% accepted. The atmosphere is very friendly. It is very nice to work with so many different people. There is always someone with whom you click and the collaboration goes very well because everyone has a different personality. It is very important to us that everyone is equal. It's nice to see that every completely different person can volunteer. For these reasons we really like that so many different people come to us. The volunteers do not need to have any knowledge or experience in advance, because they are fully trained with us. It starts with watching and learning the basic activities, after four shifts someone can usually participate fully. All we ask is an affinity with animals. That's what all our volunteers have in common. When volunteers come to us, there are often things that they still find exciting, such as picking up an animal. It is very nice to see that they learn to deal with these tensions and in the end enjoy doing something so exciting! We notice that the volunteers have a great time with us. They are allowed to interact with animals all day long, but they are also very socially developed because you are always working with others. The volunteers like to have a daytime activity, and to mean something to the world. Ultimately, 95% of the people who start with us continue to work with us. We are incredibly happy with our volunteers, the atmosphere and the enthusiasm! Share these stories and inspire others to help too! Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Whatsapp Forward
