#GivingTuesday: 25 presents for all volunteers in the Netherlands
Breda, 26 November 2020
Starting on Giving Tuesday, 7 million Dutch people will be thanked in December for their help over the past year. From corona help to volunteer work, all helpers can unwrap a small corona-proof gift every day on a 'December calendar'. The initiative comes from NLvoorelkaar and is being distributed or distributed by more than a hundred volunteer organisations. This makes it the largest 'give' campaign in the Netherlands.
GivingTuesday was originally created as a counterpart to the 'bargain days' Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Just like the shopping days, the concept has blown over from America for three years now. The idea is to do something good for someone else or the world this day. Because the Netherlands was massively ready for each other during the corona crisis this year, initiator NLvoorelkaar, together with hundreds of volunteer organizations, would like to thank all donors this year.
Corona help hype
This spring and again, the willingness of the Dutch to help each other is visible. The #coronahulp went viral for weeks, banners were hung at every hospital, drawings flooded the mailbox of many nursing homes. And that willingness to help remains. Figures from doing good platform NLvoorelkaar show that more than 65,000 matches were made in the corona time. Surprisingly, most matches were made in the past month: almost 10,000.

To thank
All Dutch people who made a difference this year will receive a December calendar with 25 small gifts. Starting on Volunteer Day (December 7), a small and of course present can be unwrapped every day. An online sports lesson, cooking workshop, e-book or raffle prizes, something for everyone.
(handing out
The initiative is already shared by more than a hundred small and large volunteer organizations in the Netherlands. Anyone who wants to thank someone for their volunteer help can join for free.
“This is about the largest holiday package that will ever be distributed in the Netherlands,” says Jeroen de Punder, director NLvoorelkaar and initiator of the action. “More than half of the Netherlands volunteers or helped each other in the past year. With the December calendar, we as a collective would like to thank everyone from the volunteer world. He who does good, meets good. And of course we hope to inspire everyone to continue with this, because that is badly needed due to corona. The December calendar can therefore be distributed free of charge by anyone who wants to thank others for their efforts.”
